Budget 2026: Key Takeaways from Godongwana’s Speech

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana says government’s plan to rein in spending and boost revenue is working. The budget deficit is narrowing, debt-service costs are easing, and borrowing will drop to R380-billion in 2026 - down from R563-billion last year. Economic growth is projected at 1.6%, inflation at 3.4%, and a planned R20-billion income tax hike has been scrapped. Tax brackets will also finally adjust for inflation.
