As part of Kaya 959's official media partnership with Chefs & Chenin, Feel Good is hosting Chef Mahalia Jackson for an in-studio food showcase and conversation ahead of the event on 26 and 27 September.
Chef Mahalia will prepare a selection of tasters to give the live audience (including media) a taste of what the public can expect at Chefs & Chenin.
The actual event centres on open-fire cooking. For practical purposes, Chef Mahalia will use a gas braai on the Kaya 959 balcony for this preview. This should be positioned as a studio adaptation rather than a representation of how the food will be prepared at the event itself.
Mahalia Jackson is an Executive Chef, entrepreneur and published author with more than three decades of experience in the culinary industry. She has been Managing Director of Added Touch Catering and Events since 2005, creating dining experiences, managing major corporate events and training culinary professionals.
Her career extends well beyond the kitchen. She is also a motivational speaker, life coach and industry thought leader, combining culinary creativity with business expertise. Her work has included major brand launches and VIP events, and she has served guests including President Nelson Mandela, President Thabo Mbeki and international diplomats.
Chef Mahalia is also the author of Dare to Dream, part recipe book and part memoir, which received an African Authors Award in the Food Category. She has worked as a food editor, facilitated workshops on the Art of Entertaining and is currently pursuing a Diploma in Diet & Nutrition, extending her interest into the relationship between food, health and wellness.
Chefs & Chenin is a two-day culinary celebration taking place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026 at Crawford International Sandton.
The event showcases a distinctive South African culinary tradition: cooking over fire. Some of the country's top chefs will cook over open flames, and guests will also be able to explore a broader food, entertainment and lifestyle programme.
It's not just about watching chefs cook over fire. It's an afternoon built around tasting, discovering, sharing and enjoying good food, good wine and good company. Beyond the food, the event includes live entertainment, children's activities, a harvest market featuring local producers and artisans, and an art exhibition.
Kaya 959 is the official media partner, bringing the station's personalities, audience and sound into the experience.
