IOD impacts spring rainfall prospects

OFM News' agri editor Sabrina Dean spoke to SA Weather Service scientist Cobus Olivier to find out what the predictions are for rainfall in spring and early summer. Olivier explains that spring rainfall in South Africa is largely determined by the state of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), which is suggesting below normal rainfall for spring. He says there is still a lot of uncertainty in terms of early summer rainfall but at this stage, most models are suggesting above average rainfall in November, December and January:
