Afasa calls for wage subsidy for smallholder farmers

OFM News’ agri editor Sabrina Dean speaks to Aggrey Mahanjana, secretary general of the African Farmer’s Association of SA, Afasa. The conversation deals with Afasa’s proposal to Government to implement a wage subsidy to assist smallholder farmers to be able to afford the proposed national minimum wage of R3500 per month. He says this will serve a dual purpose because it will create incentive for smallholder farmers to register their employees with the Department of Labour:
